There is no universal minimum investment for a solar dealership in India. The correct number is the highest cash shortfall in your own launch plan, using the actual programme fee, stock commitment, setup costs, payment terms, customer collection timing, and contingency.
The current public Qbits partner page does not publish a minimum dealer investment. It asks applicants about working capital, loans, cash-credit limits, other capital, and infrastructure. Those questions are inputs for review, not a published price or approval threshold.
What do current solar programmes actually publish?
Published amounts cannot be compared until you identify what each number buys. A registration payment, a demo purchase, opening stock, and total working capital are four different things.
The table below uses only current pages published by the named companies. It does not turn their terms into an industry average or a Qbits estimate.
| Named programme | Amount shown on the official page | What the page ties it to | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loom Solar Dealer Registration | ₹5,000 registration product; the description also refers to purchasing ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 of product as a demo unit | Loom Solar’s dealer registration and its stated demo approach | Total cash needed to run a dealership, Qbits terms, or a universal dealer minimum |
| APN Solar dealership | Smart ₹50,000; Advanced ₹1 Lakh to ₹1.5 Lakh; Master ₹2 Lakh and above; Master Premium ₹4 Lakh and above | APN Solar’s own named dealership tiers | A like-for-like inverter-only dealership budget or Qbits programme terms |
| Loom Solar Distributor Registration | ₹25,000 registration product; the description states ₹10 Lakh of stock, or ₹25 Lakh in a state capital or divisional-level district | A distributor route that supplies dealers and customers | The investment required for a local dealer role |
| Qbits dealer application | No public minimum amount | The form requests the applicant’s current financial and operating details | Approval, stock, margin, credit, territory, earnings, or appointment terms |
The Loom Solar dealer page and Loom Solar distributor page were live and purchasable when checked on 26 September 2026. Their public product data dates the original listings to 26 October 2018, so applicants should reconfirm the full current terms before paying. The APN Solar article was published on 9 April 2025 and marked modified on 1 August 2025.
These examples expose the central problem with search results about dealership cost. A small headline amount may be a registration item. Another amount may include stock. A third may describe an installer, franchise, or distributor rather than a dealer. None can safely fill the blank in a different manufacturer’s proposal.
Calculate required cash, not a headline investment
Build the budget from cash movements. Use this structure:
Each term needs a written source.
| Budget block | Include | Evidence to use |
|---|---|---|
| Programme commitments | Registration fee, security, deposit, training charge, demo requirement, licence or onboarding payment | Dated programme sheet, invoice, refund terms |
| Setup cash | Premises deposit, fit-out, signage, computer, billing system, insurance, tools, safe storage | Supplier quotations and lease terms |
| Opening stock cash | Exact models, quantities, taxes, freight, transit insurance, unloading, demo units, service spares | Approved opening order and delivered-cost sheet |
| Operating cash gap | Payroll, rent, utilities, travel, local marketing, customer credit, tax timing, warranty logistics | Month-by-month cash-flow plan |
| Contingency | Cost increases, delayed collections, slow stock, damaged goods, delayed credit notes | A documented downside scenario chosen by the business |
Do not add every line from a generic dealership article. If you already have suitable premises, record the incremental cost rather than pretending to rent a second shop. If the role is resale only, do not budget an installation team that the agreement does not require. If service tools or spares are compulsory, do not hide them inside contingency.
The figure that matters is not total annual spending. It is the lowest point in the cumulative cash balance before customer collections, supplier credit, and approved refunds arrive.
After the launch budget is set, use the working-capital and stock-finance guide to model repeated replenishment, customer collections, facility headroom, and a slow-stock case.
Build the cash-timing sheet before choosing a number
A dealership can appear affordable on opening day and still run out of cash during replenishment. Put each expected movement on a timeline.
- Enter only cash that is available on the calculation date.
- Add each payment on its contractual due date.
- Add customer collections on a conservative expected date, not the invoice date.
- Add supplier credit only after it is approved in writing.
- Keep GST, freight, deposits, and credit notes as separate lines.
- Find the largest cumulative negative balance.
- Add the contingency approved by the business owner and accountant.
Use this blank worksheet:
| Cash-flow item | Amount | Payment or receipt date | Written source | Recoverable? | What could delay it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Registration or programme payment | |||||
| Security or deposit | |||||
| Opening stock, tax and freight | |||||
| Premises and equipment | |||||
| Fixed operating costs | |||||
| Customer collections | |||||
| Approved supplier credit | |||||
| Returns or credit notes | |||||
| Contingency |
This sheet produces a supportable requirement without publishing a fictional Qbits amount. It also makes the later conversation more useful. A partner team can respond to specific assumptions instead of debating one unexplained number.
What most dealership cost estimates get wrong
The most common error is treating one visible payment as the whole investment. The Loom Solar example shows why that fails: the current dealer page lists a ₹5,000 registration product and separately discusses ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 of demo product.
Other errors can distort the result just as much:
- using a distributor stock requirement for a dealer application;
- counting a requested loan as approved cash;
- counting one cash-credit facility twice;
- valuing stock at the expected selling price instead of delivered purchase cost;
- assuming credit, stock return, buyback, exclusivity, or lead allocation before approval;
- omitting tax and freight timing because they may later be recoverable;
- subtracting expected profit from the cash requirement before a sale occurs; and
- committing to premises, hiring, or inventory before appointment terms are final.
A low entry payment can sit beside a large cash cycle. A high stock commitment may also include saleable inventory rather than a fee. Label each amount by purpose, timing, ownership, and recoverability before comparing programmes.
Which Qbits financial fields should you prepare?
As of 26 September 2026, the Qbits partner form asks for annual turnover, total available working capital in lakhs, total bank-loan amount, cash-credit limits, other capital, and the hypothecated bank. It also asks about office type, warehouse availability and size, team capacity, and target monthly sales.
The form does not explain a scoring formula or publish a required minimum. Prepare the figures from current records and use one reporting date. If a term such as working capital available is unclear for your business structure, confirm the basis with your accountant and ask Qbits what it expects.
The field-by-field Qbits partner application guide explains how to keep these answers consistent. Use the dealer application process separately for eligibility, documents, and submission steps.
Ask these questions before spending
If the application progresses, request a dated written answer for every cash commitment:
Carry the answers into the solar dealer agreement checklist. A verbal estimate should remain an estimate until the authorised proposal, schedules, invoices, and refund terms agree.
Decide what you can commit without assuming future sales
Run at least three cases: the planned case, slower sales with delayed collections, and an exit case with unsold stock. The decision is viable only if the business can fund the downside without relying on an unpublished margin, an unapproved credit line, or a stock-return right that is not written.
When your records and role are ready, complete the official Qbits partner application and select Dealer. Treat submission as the start of review, not permission to spend or represent the business as an authorised Qbits dealer.
