The best solar inverter for a weak grid is the exact model whose permitted AC operating range fits measured site conditions and the approved grid profile. Do not choose from a brand-level claim such as “India tuned,” and do not mistake the solar-panel MPPT range for the AC grid range.
In this documented 5 kW shortlist, the published AC ranges differ: GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30 publishes an upper boundary of 311 V, Qbits QB-5KTLS publishes 90 to 290 Vac adjustable, and Sungrow SG5.0RS-L publishes 154 to 276 V. Solis S6-GR1P5K-S says it maintains stable generation under weak-grid conditions, but its public flyer does not state a comparable AC operating range.
Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not permission to widen protection thresholds. The approved country profile, exact model manual, DISCOM condition, and commissioning record still control how a unit may be set.
The shortlist and verdicts
The table uses exact 5 kW, single-phase, on-grid models. It compares only the AC-side data relevant to a weak or fluctuating grid. A published range does not mean that every value inside it is permitted on your connection.
| Exact model | Conditional best fit | Published AC-side data | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30 | A measured high-voltage site where the approved profile can use the documented upper window | Output voltage range of 196 to 311 V; AC grid frequency range of 45 to 55 Hz or 55 to 65 Hz | A global datasheet does not confirm Indian stock, local approval, or the settings permitted by your DISCOM |
| Qbits QB-5KTLS | The broadest documented numerical AC span in this four-model set | Grid voltage range of 90 to 290 Vac, marked adjustable; grid frequency range of 45 to 55 Hz or 55 to 65 Hz | The sheet does not publish the adjustment procedure, grid-profile matrix, or complete written warranty terms |
| Solis S6-GR1P5K-S | A shortlist that requires an explicit manufacturer weak-grid feature statement | “Smart grid compatibility” that “maintains stable generation under weak grid conditions” | The flyer gives no comparable AC operating range, so it cannot win the numerical range comparison |
| Sungrow SG5.0RS-L | A documented middle range with an accessible detailed manual | AC voltage range of 154 to 276 V; grid frequency range of 45 to 55 Hz or 55 to 65 Hz | Global documents do not confirm current India availability, local approval, or field performance |
There is no honest universal winner. GoodWe publishes the highest upper boundary, Qbits publishes a 90 to 290 Vac adjustable range, Sungrow supplies a clear range and detailed manual, and Solis supplies a weak-grid positioning statement without the comparable number needed for a range verdict.
How this comparison was built
Weak-grid lists often mix incompatible products and unrelated numbers. This shortlist used five gates:
- Same product class. Each model is a 5 kW, single-phase, grid-connected string inverter.
- Current manufacturer documents. Each included family has an accessible manufacturer page or datasheet, checked on 26 September 2026.
- AC-side fields only. Grid or output voltage range and grid-frequency documentation matter here. DC MPPT range does not substitute for them.
- Unknowns stay visible. Missing protection thresholds, authorised settings, India availability, warranty terms, and service results remain unknown.
- Conditional verdicts. The site measurement and approved connection decide fit. No brand receives a universal reliability or quality ranking.
GoodWe appears before Qbits, and Qbits does not receive an automatic overall win. Growatt’s official sitemap lists the MIC family, but its linked product page returned HTTP 404 when we checked, so Growatt is left out rather than filled in from marketplaces or copied tables.
Weak grid, voltage fluctuation, and outage are different problems
A weak or fluctuating grid is still present, but its measured voltage or frequency varies. An inverter may reduce output or disconnect when conditions cross its configured operating or protection criteria.
A grid outage means the utility supply is absent. A standard on-grid inverter must stop energising the circuit because of anti-islanding protection. A wide AC range cannot turn it into a backup inverter. If your real problem is load shedding, use the inverter guide for frequent power cuts before choosing a category.
A high-voltage trip during strong solar export may involve installation voltage rise, network voltage, settings, wiring, or measurement. Buying another inverter without diagnosing the cause can reproduce the same fault. The grid-overvoltage diagnosis guide explains the safe evidence handoff.
This distinction prevents a costly category error. A rural home with long outages may need a hybrid design and battery. A home with a present but fluctuating grid may need a properly documented on-grid model, qualified measurements, and an approved commissioning profile. Some sites have both problems and need both decisions addressed.
Why MPPT voltage range is the wrong number
Maximum Power Point Tracking, or MPPT, operates on the DC electricity coming from the solar-panel strings. Grid voltage is AC electricity at the inverter’s output connection. The two sides serve different functions and use different limits.
For example, the Qbits QB-5KTLS sheet publishes both a 40 to 600 V MPPT range and a 90 to 290 Vac grid range. The first number helps an installer design the panel string. The second is the relevant published AC range for this article. Neither number replaces protection settings or a grid-connection requirement.
Use this quick check when reading a datasheet:
| Label in the document | Side | What it helps decide |
|---|---|---|
| MPPT operating voltage | DC, solar array | Module count and operating string voltage |
| Maximum DC voltage | DC, solar array | Cold-condition string safety ceiling |
| Rated grid voltage | AC, utility connection | Nominal connection class |
| AC or grid voltage range | AC, utility connection | Manufacturer-published operating window |
| Overvoltage and undervoltage protection | AC, utility connection | When the approved profile requires another response |
| Reconnect time | AC, utility connection | How reconnection occurs after stable conditions return |
If a seller answers an AC fluctuation question with only an MPPT value, the comparison is incomplete.
What each exact model publishes
GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30
The current GoodWe DNS G3 datasheet lists GW5000-DNS-30 within a 3 to 6 kW family. It publishes 220, 230, or 240 V nominal output and a 196 to 311 V output voltage range. It also lists integrated anti-islanding and AC overvoltage protection.
The 311 V upper figure is the highest in this set. That does not mean an installer may set the inverter to remain connected up to 311 V on every Indian connection. Ask for the exact India grid profile, permitted thresholds, and commissioning record.
Qbits QB-5KTLS
The Qbits QB-4.6/5/6KTLS product record and family datasheet list a 90 to 290 Vac adjustable grid range for QB-5KTLS. The sheet also lists grid monitoring, output overvoltage protection, and islanding protection.
The wording belongs only to the QB-4.6/5/6KTLS family. Do not transfer it to QB-1.5-4.0KTLS, KTLD, TLC, Pro, Plus, EHV, or QBH models. Also ask what “adjustable” means in the approved India profile. It is not an invitation to bypass protection.
Solis S6-GR1P5K-S
The current Solis S6-GR1P(2.5-6)K-S product page links a flyer that includes the 5 kW model. The flyer says “Smart grid compatibility” maintains stable generation under weak-grid conditions and lists grid monitoring and anti-islanding protection.
The same flyer publishes rated grid voltage but not a comparable AC voltage range. That is a meaningful documentation gap for this buying decision. Ask Solis or the quoted seller for the exact grid operating limits and permitted India settings before treating the feature statement as equivalent to a number.
Sungrow SG5.0RS-L
The current Sungrow SG4.0/5.0/6.0RS-L datasheet publishes a 154 to 276 V AC range for SG5.0RS-L. Sungrow also provides a detailed family manual that defines grid-related checks and tells the reader to contact the utility where measured grid voltage is outside the relevant set value.
The manual improves traceability, but it does not show better field reliability. Local stock, service terms, permitted grid profile, and current India sale documents still require confirmation.
Measure the site before choosing
A range comparison becomes useful only after the site condition is documented. Ask a qualified installer or electrical professional to create a short grid-condition record.
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Voltage at the point of connection | Establishes the incoming condition |
| Voltage at the inverter terminals | Helps separate network voltage from installation-side rise |
| Timestamp and operating state | Links the reading to load, export, and logged events |
| Minimum and maximum observed values | Shows the condition the shortlist must address |
| Phase and neutral condition where applicable | Prevents a multi-phase issue from being reduced to one number |
| Inverter message and event log | Preserves the exact detected condition |
| Model and firmware version | Selects the correct manual and grid profile |
| Recent meter, wiring, transformer, or commissioning work | Identifies a possible change point |
The documents to request with the quote
Ask every shortlisted seller for the same documents:
The grid-settings verification guide explains how an installer should turn these documents into a commissioning record. A datasheet range is the start of the review, not the final setting.
What owners and installers must not change
A qualified investigation should first distinguish:
- elevated incoming network voltage;
- installation-side voltage rise during export;
- conductor, connection, neutral, or phase conditions;
- incorrect grid profile or commissioning value;
- measurement or monitoring error;
- an equipment fault.
Any authorised correction should record the original value, approving document, responsible person, final value, and retest result. Wider hardware capability never overrides safety protection or the DISCOM requirement.
The buying decision
Start with the problem, not the brand. If the grid disappears and you need backup, compare hybrid systems. If the grid remains present but voltage fluctuates, collect measurements and compare exact AC-side documentation. If the inverter already trips high, diagnose the network and installation before replacing hardware.
For a measured weak-grid site considering Qbits, review the Qbits on-grid inverter range and request the exact model datasheet, India grid-profile documents, permitted settings, current written warranty, and commissioning deliverables. The QB-5KTLS range is relevant only when that exact family, capacity, one-MPPT design, and approved settings fit the proposed system.
