The best zero-export solar inverter in India is not the model with a “zero export” checkbox. It is the exact inverter, meter or current transformer, controller, firmware, wiring, and commissioned settings that satisfy the written connection condition for the property.
Among current public sources reviewed on 26 September 2026, Microtek GTI 5KW-M12 has the clearest India-facing exact-product claim because its technical table explicitly lists “Zero Export or Adjustable Power Limit Export (Optional).” Solis S5-GR3P5K-LV has the most complete public control documentation: its linked exact-model manual describes zero injection, supported smart-meter routes, a zero-watt setpoint, average and per-phase modes, and fail-safe behaviour. Havells Enviro GTi 4KT-G3 states a feed-in limitation function at family level but does not publish the same control detail.
Qbits publishes this article and sells competing on-grid inverters. Qbits is not ranked because its current public QB-5KTLS evidence does not establish export limiting or the required control hardware. We did not test any system, verify a local approval, or inspect the meter, CT, firmware, settings, field response, warranty, stock, price, or service outcome.
What this comparison covers
The zero-export glossary explains the control concept and basic commissioning checks. The broader best on-grid inverter guide covers topology, MPPTs, voltage, and general export behaviour.
This comparison answers a narrower buying question: which current exact products publish enough primary evidence to enter a zero-export shortlist, and what remains unproven before purchase.
How the shortlist was built
A product qualified only when:
- a current manufacturer page or PDF names the exact model or explicitly includes it in a named family;
- that source states zero export, feed-in limitation, or export power control;
- phase and rated output are identifiable;
- the published wording is quoted within its actual scope;
- linked exact-model manuals are checked for meter or CT scope, setpoints, operating modes, and fail-safe behaviour;
- missing firmware, accuracy, response, India applicability, and approval evidence remains visible.
Dealer pages, marketplaces, search snippets, and unsupported claims about a brand’s whole range were excluded. The three products are not ranked as electrical equivalents because their capacities and phases differ. The verdicts distinguish an India-facing product claim from a more detailed global control manual rather than forcing one universal winner.
The evidence shortlist
| Exact product | Phase and rated output | Manufacturer’s public wording | What that wording proves | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Microtek GTI 5KW-M12 | Single phase, 5,000 W | “Zero Export or Adjustable Power Limit Export (Optional)” and “Zero Export to grid kit (Optional)” | The exact India product page publishes a zero-export route and says it is optional | Included kit, exact meter or CT, setpoint accuracy, response, fail-safe, current control manual, local approval, and installed performance |
| Havells Enviro GTi 4KT-G3 | Single phase, 4,000 W | “Feed-in limitation function” on the current 1.1 to 4 kW family sheet | The exact 4 kW model sits in a family whose sheet states feed-in limitation | Whether zero is an available setpoint, required accessory, supported meter or CT, control range, response, fail-safe, or local acceptance |
| Solis S5-GR3P5K-LV | Three phase, 5 kW family member | “Supports export power control”; linked manual says “Zero injection can be achieved” | The exact-model manual documents a zero-watt setting, two DTSD1352-C meter routes, average and per-phase modes, and selectable fail-safe behaviour | India applicability, supplied accessory scope, control accuracy, response time, local approval, and installed performance |
This is an evidence ranking, not a reliability, price, efficiency, warranty, or service ranking. A weaker public page does not prove a weaker product. It means the buyer must obtain more evidence before specifying it.
Clearest India-facing zero-export claim: Microtek GTI 5KW-M12
Microtek’s exact product page is the only source in this set that uses the words zero export in the technical table. It publishes the function as optional, alongside adjustable power-limit export.
The same page identifies GTI 5KW-M12 as a 5,000 W grid-tied model and publishes 5,500 VA maximum AC power, 7,500 W maximum PV input, two MPPTs, one string per tracker, 600 V maximum DC, 80 to 550 V MPPT operation, 15 A input per tracker, and IP65.
That makes it a strong India-facing starting point for a single-phase 5 kW zero-export enquiry. It does not make the inverter alone a complete system. “Optional” means the quotation must name the kit, meter or CT, communication path, cables, controller if separate, commissioning work, and software access.
The page also contains malformed promotional copy saying “Max 07.2% Efficiency,” while its technical table states 98.4% maximum efficiency. That inconsistency is unrelated to export control, but it is a reason to request the current signed datasheet and control manual rather than relying on page copy alone.
Conditional verdict: take GTI 5KW-M12 to technical review when a single-phase 5 kW design fits and the supplier provides the exact optional kit, manual, approved diagram, and test procedure in writing.
Most complete public control documentation: Solis S5-GR3P5K-LV
Solis’ current global page names S5-GR3P(5-10)K-LV and lists 5K, 6K, and 10K variants. It describes the family as three phase and states “Supports export power control” plus 24-hour load-consumption monitoring.
The page links a July 2024 manual that explicitly covers S5-GR3P5K-LV and S5-GR3P6K-LV. That manual says zero injection can be achieved through the internal Export Power Management function. It identifies two optional DTSD1352-C three-phase smart-meter routes:
- a direct-insert meter with a maximum input current of 80 A;
- an external-CT meter supplied with 150 A/5 A CTs.
The manual allows the meter on the grid or load side for export control. It publishes an allowed-export setting from 00000 W to 29900 W and says grid-side or load-side meter modes default to 0 W backflow. It also documents an average three-phase mode and a per-phase mode based on the lowest-loaded phase.
Fail-safe behaviour is selectable, not automatic proof of a compliant installation.
This is stronger technical evidence than a feature label. It is still a global page with a European manual, not proof of current India stock, India-specific certificate scope, accessory inclusion, control accuracy, response time, or DISCOM acceptance.
Conditional verdict: take S5-GR3P5K-LV to technical review when a three-phase 5 kW design fits. Require the India-applicable manual, exact meter or CT order code, approved mode, settings record, and local acceptance evidence.
Best 4 kW feed-in limitation candidate: Havells Enviro GTi 4KT-G3
Havells’ current India PDF identifies Enviro GTi 4KT-G3 as a 4,000 W single-phase grid-tie inverter. The family page states a feed-in limitation function. It also publishes 4,000 VA maximum apparent power, one MPPT, one DC input, 550 V maximum DC for the larger family columns, a 50 to 550 V MPPT range, IP65, and optional Wi-Fi or GPRS alongside RS485.
“Feed-in limitation” is relevant evidence, but it is broader than an exact zero-export claim. The reviewed PDF does not name the sensor, controller, setpoint range, control accuracy, response time, or loss-of-communication behaviour. It also does not show an installed-system diagram.
Conditional verdict: shortlist Enviro GTi 4KT-G3 only after Havells or the authorised supplier provides an exact control manual that confirms a zero setpoint, compatible measurement hardware, topology, and commissioning test for the quoted model.
Why Qbits is not ranked
The current Qbits QB-5KTLS product record and public datasheet establish a 5,000 W single-phase on-grid inverter with one MPPT, one string, 7,500 W maximum DC input, 600 V maximum DC, and communications. They do not establish:
- a zero-export or adjustable export-limit function;
- a compatible meter or CT;
- a controller or wiring topology;
- supported setpoints, accuracy, or response;
- behaviour after sensor or communication loss;
- a commissioning procedure;
- approval for a particular DISCOM.
Absence from the public sheet is not proof that the function is impossible. It is proof that this article cannot recommend the model for zero export from the evidence available.
If Qbits supplies the missing exact-model control documents, compare them with the other candidates. Until then, use the Qbits on-grid range only as a request route, not as evidence that the requirement is met.
A zero-export inverter is not a zero-export system
The control loop needs to know what is happening at the agreed grid-connection point. A typical design therefore includes more than an inverter:
| System element | Evidence to request | Commissioning question |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement point | Approved single-line diagram | Does the sensor see the full net flow between site and utility? |
| Meter or CT | Exact make, model, ratio, orientation, and inverter compatibility | Is it installed on the correct conductor and direction? |
| Phase mapping | Terminal schedule and meter configuration | Does every measured phase correspond to the controller’s phase? |
| Communication | Cable, protocol, addressing, termination, and firmware requirements | Is live data stable at the inverter or controller? |
| Export setting | Approved setpoint and access control | Is the configured value the value authorised for this project? |
| Failure behaviour | Manufacturer manual | What happens after meter, CT, or communication loss? |
| Verification | Test method, instruments, load steps, timestamps, and readings | Does observed grid flow stay within the written acceptance basis? |
A menu screenshot proves only that a setting was visible. It does not prove the sensor is installed at the right boundary, phases are mapped correctly, the controller receives valid data, or the plant responds as approved.
Export limiting, zero export, and no grid connection are different
Export limiting can mean any cap on export. A 3 kW export cap is not zero export.
Zero export targets no intentional injection at the specified measurement boundary. The equipment manual and approval documents must define how that target is controlled and verified.
Off-grid operation means the system is not synchronised with the utility in the same way. A grid-connected zero-export system remains a grid-connected generator with metering, protection, isolation, and approval questions.
Zero export also does not create backup. The compared products are on-grid inverters. When the grid is absent, ordinary anti-islanding behaviour still applies. Backup needs a separately approved hybrid or off-grid architecture.
The regulatory answer is address-specific
There is no state-by-state rule table in this article because the reviewed evidence does not support one stable national summary for every homeowner, consumer category, and DISCOM.
The MNRE residential CFA operational guidelines were issued on 13 June 2024. They place physical inspection with the DISCOM and keep metering and related processes subject to state regulation and the relevant DISCOM route.
The guidelines also address non-metered grid-connected systems that do not feed into the grid. Under this scheme, such systems are eligible only subject to approval by the respective State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The DISCOM must inspect the installation, verify the reverse-power-relay protection, and record suitable remarks. This scheme clause does not turn a manufacturer’s zero-export feature into blanket connection approval or replace other current state requirements.
Before selecting hardware, ask the serving DISCOM in writing:
Do not rely on a search snippet, an old circular, another consumer’s approval, or a state-wide statement copied from a sales page. The written current project condition is the governing input.
Size from daytime load, not available roof
A zero-export plant cannot assume surplus generation will earn export credit. When onsite demand falls below available PV output, the controller must reduce generation or send energy to supported storage within the approved operating logic.
That makes time-aligned load data important. Annual consumption alone can hide a low midday base load. Ask for interval data or a defensible load profile that shows weekdays, weekends, seasonal changes, and large loads that switch on or off.
Model at least:
- PV energy available in each interval;
- site load at the same time;
- permitted export setpoint;
- curtailment when PV exceeds load plus permitted export;
- battery charging only if an exact supported storage design exists;
- grid outages and controller unavailability where relevant to the approved logic.
Do not present curtailed energy as bill savings. It was available from the array but not delivered to a paid or useful destination.
How to test the installed control
The final procedure must come from the exact manufacturer documents and the approved connection condition. A practical evidence record should still identify:
- inverter, controller, meter or CT models, serial numbers, and firmware;
- approved single-line diagram and measurement boundary;
- CT orientation, ratio, and phase mapping;
- active control mode and authorised setpoint;
- starting site load and PV output;
- controlled load changes used during the test;
- time-aligned readings at the inverter, controller, and agreed grid point;
- observed behaviour after a measurement or communication interruption, when safe and authorised to test;
- final settings backup, access control, seals, and handover record;
- signatures or acceptance evidence required by the responsible parties.
Do not invent a universal response time or tolerance. Compare the observed result with the exact written acceptance basis for the project.

Final recommendation
Choose Microtek GTI 5KW-M12 for further due diligence when a single-phase 5 kW design fits and you want a current India-facing exact-product zero-export claim. The optional kit and installed control still need full documentation.
Choose Solis S5-GR3P5K-LV for further due diligence when a three-phase 5 kW design fits and you want the most complete public control-system evidence in this set. Confirm that the linked global and European documents apply to the India-supplied unit, then lock the meter or CT, mode, fail-safe setting, and local acceptance in writing.
Choose Havells Enviro GTi 4KT-G3 for further due diligence when a 4 kW single-phase design fits and Havells supplies exact proof that its feed-in limitation function supports the required zero setpoint and hardware.
Choose none yet if the quote says only “zero-export capable,” omits the sensor and measurement boundary, or treats a product feature as DISCOM approval. Qbits should join this shortlist only after current exact-model export-control evidence is published or supplied in writing.
